Iconic border cities McAllen and Brownsville are often underrepresented in photography. Surrounded by some 1,200 neighborhoods known as "colonias" (places so poor that HUD created this technical term to describe the particular misery of these communities) and a century's old wealth disparity crowned by more recent repressive border policies, both the cities have struggled economically. In this portofolio, we highlight a sliver of the city's cores.
