Senda de Vida 2 is a tent encampment in Reynosa, Mexico where migrants await to enter the US legally through a CBP-1 appointment. Wait times are currently nearing 8 months. Senda de Vida is the 2nd edition of Senda de Vida 1, located a few kilometers away. The camp was built 2 years ago after migrants were kicked out of downtown Reynosa; migrants built the 4 walls protecting them from the cartel-controlled region surrounding them. The shelter is 500 feet from the border. Currently, around 400 people are staying at the camp, however, at its peak, the camp has held over 2000 people. The shelter is served by a Catholic community and Doctors Without Borders. The Amish also helped build small wood shacks for women to sleep in. There are two—one for me and one for women—bathrooms that open temporarily during the day. Aside from that, people use porta-potties.
